The city of Plymouth voted to close the West Medicine Lake Boat Ramp again this summer as a way to keep invasive species like Starry Stonewort at bay. They may consider closing it permanently. People can still access the lake at a Three Rivers Park District ramp.

The boat ramp is only open 14 days out of the year to provide seasonal, deep water access to Medicine Lake. Starry Stonewart was confirmed in Medicine Lake in 2018, so there is belief that reducing access could help protect the lake.

The city says the Medicine Lake Homeowners Association requested closing the ramp permanently to stop the spread of invasive species.
